Urban War: Viridian Special Forces and Sniper

Next batch of minis for this winters Cleaning out the Closet challenge are done.

These are the first wave of Viridian Special Forces minis, and were painted a couple of years ago. They lay languishing in a box since then but I'm looking to get them on the table soon. The Viridian forces are also known for their snipers, and the sniper minis are in my opinion, some of the coolest from this range.

Head over to the original post for the 360 views, here I've concentrated on the group as a whole and the bases. The bases are Secret Weapon Urban Rubble bases. The original group of Viridians were based on a similar set, that has now been discontinued. The original set were much chunkier and more 3D, and I really liked that about them, however, they may have caused issues with the moulds or something, as the new/replacement set are much flatter. The Special forces leader in the last two pics is on the old style base, as are the Marines in this post.

Colore ton Monde: Anniversary Edition

This is less of a painting post, as there are no pics of any of the minis I am currently painting, but Tuesday night was the Club Chaos's Colore ton Monde 1st Birthday party. There was cake, and prizes. I was extremely fortunate in that i ate cake, complete with Unicron-poop flavoured ice-cream, AND I won one of the prizes, just for attending ($5 store credit to be spent on painting supplies, generously supplied by the hosts, Gamers' Vault). I chose a little tub of Secret Weapon  weathering powder. This time a blue one, to get away from all the browns and rust colours I previously bought and loved.

The event had a great turn out, with over 20 people of all ages turning up (the youngest being I think 11, and she seemed to enjoy both the painting and the cake!). Here's to the next year of events, and a growing club with a great athmosphere.

Anyway, enough with the parties, and back to the painting table, I have a Mangler to finish!

Alexia, base WIP

This mini has been on the table for a while now, but I thought it was about time to post a few WIP shots of the base, and mini for Alexia. I had the mini painted mostly up for the Longest Night event, but I had held off on the base, as I wanted something a little more special for this lady. In the end, I opted for this base by Secret Weapon.

Here, Alexia's base all but done, some muddy water to add, and some touch ups to the mini after all the man-handling required to remove the horse from its previous base and pin it to this one.

I went on to touch up the paint work, and fill in the base with some water effect, stained with Secret Weapon's Sewer Water wash. Perfectly named I feel, and the colour works great as swamp water. I dumped some grass and leaves in the mix at the last minute, as I was too eager to get the water in there, I completely forgot how I had actually planned to place these before adding the water effects.

Furthermore, I had also planned to varnish the model before I put the water effect in, as I didn't want the spray varnish I use for a dullcoat clouding up the base! This will have to be worked around, as already the paint job has chipped again where I repaired it last night. I guess I'll have to paint on the 'ard coat, then mask over the base to spray with dullcoat.

Kingdom of Britannia: Basset Tankettes III

I think I'm happy with these now, and will get on with making the bases, as there's nothing more to add to the painting of the minis.

Last night I did a last wash of watered down arcane blue (P3) over the brass wheels, followed a  by a mix of terracotta earth and Lahmian medium, then a dab of yellow earth. I have also included a picture of the Tankette beside a Rifleman, to show the Tankette to scale. It may end up a few millimetres higher once the base is complete, but not much more than that.

The second section of Riflemen are well on their way now. Their base coat is all but done, just some inks and highlights to finish them off. There's a drummer boy in the section too, painted in the same scheme and at the same time, but he seems to have fallen off the edge of the pictures. Man, inspiration has truly struck for this army. I think it helsp that the options are so far limited for troop choice. The only think I am not yet in the zone for are the character model from the box set, and the Sky Hussars (I don't know what colour scheme I want for either).

Kingdom of Britannia: Basset Tankettes II

More WIPs of the Basset Tankettes (previous post here). Almost there. Just a bit of detailing and weathering to do. The wheels for the tread need something done to them, they're still far too bright an factory new to look good. There's also some detailing I did one one of the two that needs repeated on the other, now that the original numbering I painted on has been hidden by the tracks.
I was wondering before whether or not I would be using the bases that came with these guys, as they're not all that necessary for the game. However, after I glued the tracks on, it became clear the bases were a must, as the back of the tread rises up from the table, meaning the centre of gravity of these guys is a little too far forward for them not to be based. I don't mind, the larger base size will (hopefully) allow me to go a bit more scenic.

One thing I am rather liking is the way the old Citadel Colour Flesh Wash I have looks great as rust. I have some Secret Weapon weathering powder rust colour to add too, although I will have to use is sparingly, not to over do it on these small minis. I think I'll have to go get some mud coloured powders to go on the tracks.

Once I start on the bases, that will give me a great opportunity to try out the little bricks I bought (also Secret Weapon, these guys are really going for it with their great releases)

In further news, the second section of Riflemen is based and primed. I went with a grey primer, as these guys will be following a different painting scheme from the first unit. I'll be going back to a scheme I wrote out for my 95th Rifles. That post is, coincidentally, the post with the most hits by a long margin for this blog. I guess there's a lot of gamers out there painting the 95th!
